I am sure there are a lot of us out there. My story is that I was divorced three years ago from a man who makes over a hundred thousand a year. He consolidated our student loans before we divorced without my knowledge into my name. I had no job and two kids. I found out I owed sixty thousand to the government and they expect five hundred dollar payments. I am now married with a new son who has cerebral palsy who I have to care for at home. My husband works but makes only twenty six grand a year and pays six hundred a month in child support. We could only afford to pay a hundred a month for these loans and today I was told no way that that is not acceptable and was told to get a job and pay! I was so offended as this person completely ignored all of the "real life" stuff that happens that banks love to ignore. What a joke the system is. Guess I better watch out now for someone to come arrest me... Wish there was real help for people like us.

I have been out of school since 1996, and as of lately collections call my house at least 5 times a day. I am a single parent of 3 kids, and work as a waitress..I have been trying to pay them as much as i can every month, but money doesn't just fall of the tree's. These people are very rude and i think they're should be a bill passed about the harrassing phone calls 5 times a day. They should only be allowed to call once instead of filling up my voice mail with long messages. My voice mail is incase someone (my kids school for the most part), needs to get ahold of me, not for them to repeat themselves, i obviously heard it the 1st time...
I too am very bitter at the way they think they can treat people. I do feel bad that i have had to lessen my payments, etc...but as a mother of 3 kids, i can't do much more than i am trying to do now.

It's about fucking time - I too have been out of college since 97 and have filed for bankruptcy three years ago - still, due to the student loans I am unable to rebuild any credit and have been refused a couple of jobs over "poor characters have poor credit" bullshit

I have been harrassed for nine years by the collection agency that holds my loans. I can't even tell you all of the illegal and horrible things that they have resorted to (not enough time).
Like other former students I believed that education was going to be my saviour, but I ended up making less than $10 per hour - I am also a single parent.
The worst part is, I was willing to make payments on my loan, just not the $550 that the bank was demanding. I made several attempts to discuss this with the bank, but I was ignored and my loans were sent to collections.

I am extremely bitter, because of the way I have been treated. I say Thank you to whatever power in the universe that will let me put this behind me!!
